Water channel on Jalan Kebon Manggis I RT 01/02 of Kebon Manggis Urban Village, Matraman, East Jakarta, is being dredged by 10 PPSU personnel, Saturday (2/21).

Kebon Manggis Urban Village's Head Section of Economy and Development, Mas'udah, said the dredging is run based on local residents' request.

The PPSU personnel carried out the channel cleaning manually, by going down into the channel which is about 40 centimeters wide and about 20 meters long.

"We're cleaning the drains to prevent flooding during heavy rains, as the sedimentation is already 10 centimeters thick," he said.

Syahrul (45), a local resident, appreciated the quick response of urban village rank in dredging the channel.

"If this sedimentation is left unchecked, it will cause flooding during heavy rain. We express our gratitude and appreciation to the urban village for quickly clearing the drains," he admitted.
